I have seen 48 of L.Q.’s movies listed above. The highest rated I have not seen is Melanie.
L.Q. is # 841 on the 2021 Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. Amazingly he never made the top 500 of any decade.
These are the actors on the 2021 list he appeared with.

Hey Dan
1. As always thanks for putting these lists together.
2. Tally count: 48 for you, 21 for me, 20 for Bob and 16 for Flora…or 57 for us to your small total of 48…lol.
3. Surprised he has a spot on the Oracle Top 1000……as his heyday was almost half a century ago.
4. Looks like the great Slim Pickens gets the honors as most frequent Oracle co-star with 5 movies.
5. 33 Oscar winning co-stars is actually pretty good considering the types of movies that he appeared in most of the time.
Good stuff as always…RIP Mr. Jones.Reply

Hey Flora, thanks for sharing your thoughts on our L.Q. Jones tribute page. Tally count: 48 for Dan, 21 for me, 20 for Bob and 16 for you. I have seen 5 of your favorites and 5 of your others. Not surprised that The Wild Bunch is not on the favorites list, as I remember when you saw that one, that you did not like it all. Good comment as always.

I rarely go to the cinema these days though I watch a lot of television movies and reruns of selected cinematic films of yesteryear.
Therefore the 2 relatively most recent L Q movies that I have see are the swearfest 1995 Casino and The Mask of Zorro in 1998. The final movie of his that I saw previous to those two was way back in 1965: Chuck Heston’s Major Dundee.
Hawk-faced LQ was in fact one of the most prolific character actors of my formative years as a moviegoer in the 1950s and early 1960s and I have overall seen 20 of his movies. The ones that I most remember are naturally those featuring some of my top idols:
Towards the Unknown aka Brink of Hell -William Holden
Santiago aka The Gun Runners – Alan Ladd
The Young Lions – Marlon Brando
Cimarron and Torpedo Run – both starring Glenn Ford
Flaming Star – Elvis in a role originally meant for Brando
Warlock – Richard Widmark
Major Dundee – Chuck Heston
Showdown – Audie MurphyMy fave among that batch is in fact one of my all time best-liked westerns: Widmark’s Warlock. However some years ago the Work Horse kindly bought me a book on Audie Murphy which I have valued ever since as a source of reference on Audie’s films and here is what it has to say about 1963’s Showdown: “The picture is interesting and absorbing and well plotted. Murphy performs with heroic valour and turns in a good acting job.”
Joel Hirschhorn could not have covered it better – and maybe not even as well!! That mean ole Work Horse gives it just a 52% rating above; but [largely for fans such as I] it was a low budget routine B western which curiously -maybe to cut costs – is in black and white.
Anyway according to the Celebrity Net Worth site LQ was worth $2 million at the time of his sad death. That’s not a lot these days considering that outrageous sums of money are showered on many new actresses and actresses who do not at least in my opinion bring to the entertainment table the value that the veteran LQ did over so many years.
However the figure suggests that at least LQ who lived to the old age of 94 as The Work Horse faithfully records above thankfully was maintained in comfort in his final years. “Voted Up!”

Hey Bob….thanks for the thoughts on the late L.Q. Jones. Tally count: 48 for Dan, 21 for me, 20 for you and 16 for Flora. Looking at your favorites that you listed, I have seen 3 of them…with Major Dundee being one I want to see. He actually made 3 movies with Elvis…..I wonder how many others made that many with the King? Good to know that Mr. Jones was not struggling for money in his 90s. Rest in Peace Mr. Jones.

Sad news about the passing of L. Q. Jones. I have seen 21 L.Q. Jones movies. Favorites would include A Boy And His Dog, Casino, The Edge, The Jack Bull and his appearances in the Sam Peckinpah westerns. I for years, heck decades, got L.Q. Jones mixed up with Anthony James. Everytime, I would see Anthony James pop up in a movie, I would think that is L.Q., the guy that directed A Boy And His Dog. It was not until I listened to the DVD commentary of that movie that I realized I had been wrong for so many years. Rest in Peace Mr. Jones.
